Over the past several years, I have heard a swirl of differing opinions on the whole Harry Potter phenom. While some opinions are rather ill-thought out, other comments seem to be much more rational.
Tonight, I read this wonderful little article in Christianity Today, that seemed to sum up the whole Harry Potter series quite well.
Would you not agree?

I agree. One of the best things about the Harry Potter books can be, as Mark D. Roberts recommends, bringing parents and children together to read and discuss the books and the themes of good and evil that are in them. My friends and I have done this in our families.
HP is just fun, like Superman, but it's GREAT literature! Ever notice how so many hero figures are orphans? Harry is seeking a father and a home... and so were we all, orphans or not.

I first heard of Harry Potter from my Sunday School students. My first impulse was to say "no way". I was horrified at the thought of my kids reading about witch craft!
However, I felt before condemning the books, I needed to read them first. I admit, I was hooked within the first few chapters and I could see some wonderful opportunities to share Christian principles by comparing them to what Harry and his friends go through. Since then, Harry's adventures are my favorite to give young friends (with parental permission, of course) and I've had many wonderful discussions with parents and children in regards to the lessons Harry learns.
