Memorial Day 2008

Today I am remembering my Dad, Roland Steele Norris (1920-2007), who served this country in World War II, as a B-17 pilot trainer, and air-sea rescue captain. I am also remembering the more than 4,000 American families who have paid the ultimate price of sacrifice in the war in Iraq.

May there be Peace on Earth.

I also was blessed to have known my father-in-law, but for too short a time. An Army Physician and Colonel, Dr. Nicholas Khoury (1934-1999) was an awesome man of God, huge in stature and warm in heart. A St. Andrew's family recently lost another fine man, Mark Metherell (www.MarkMeterell.com), a retired Navy SEAL went to be with the Lord April 11, 2008. Mark was training Iraqi Special Forces when a large IED hit the lead car he was in.
As the trite saying goes, "Freedom is not Free" - indeed, it is not free. But it is worth fighting for. To paraphrase Ephesians 4: 1-6, there is One World, One God and One Hope. May we all strive for peace and remember those that lived their lives true to their calling.
